If you follow certain traditions, then the Chinese New Year for you will be a lucky one. During this time of the year, it's best to have dinner with your family to make the celebration enjoyable.

It's best to open all the windows and turn all the lights for good luck. You can also add some coals (business support) and golden garlic (symbol) on a plate.

Fireworks are also essential since they ward off bad luck, and welcome auspicious energies.

Apart from these, you should also look into which foods that will help make your new year even luckier.

It's best to have these dishes prepared on the table for New Year's Eve.

  • Fish - Having fish during Chinese New Year night is a great idea! This dish represents our way of being able to sneak through different problems the same way a fish swims through the water. You need to at least taste this food during the New Year's party. The abundance of roe and the scales of the fish signifies fortune and wealth.
  • JiaoZi - Eating JiaoZ is enjoyable for people especially during Chinese New Year. This dish is a type of dumpling that symbolizes longevity and wealth. These dumplings mostly take a round shape form, which closely resembles the old Japanese money.
  • Tray of Togetherness - This tray consists 8 types of different snacks. An example of this tray would include almonds, apricots, chestnuts, hazelnuts, nuts, prunes, peach seeds, pecan nuts, and small ingots, but also sweets. The foods contained here symbolizes abundance and prosperity. It is best served to your guests or you can give it as a gift to a friend. You can even add pomelos and oranges to attract wealth and pomegranate for fertility.
  • Bird's Nest Soup - This is a soup that symbolizes prosperity and long life, which is why this dish deserves to be on the dinner table during New Year's Eve.
  • Duck - Just like fish, duck should be served whole and it will signify a better new year.
  • Noodles - Anyone who wishes for a longer life need to eat noodles during New Year. Many Asians are familiar with this practice and they believe that it will attract longevity. Just make sure not to cut the noodles when you're eating them. It's not auspicious!
  • Jai or Buddha's Delight - This vegetarian dish is famous in the Chinese kitchen. Its presence on the dinner table will signify good health during the New Year.

The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in the house since this is where the family eats. Cleanliness should be maintained both in the room and in the fridge.

If you've got any old or expired foods, throw them away and buy new ones to prepare for the Chinese New Year dinner. The fridge should only contain fresh foods during the first 15 days of the Chinese New Year.
